The Riley is a mixed-use rental building located on Main Street and within Vancouver’s Riley Park - Little Mountain neighbourhood. Given the finer grain of the pedestrian-oriented street, the approach was to break the building into a series of smaller, clearly identifiable building forms that address City mandated step-backs while creating a varied façade. Each building form is clad with a different colour and material, further emphasizing the streetscape created within the building.
Along Main Street, the ground level of the Riley is comprised of neighbourhood serving retail. The rhythm of the upper level residential units is brought down to grade through a series of piers that give the retail units desirable storefronts and a more intimate scale.
